Question about homebrewing law from Greece

Inläggav panb » söndag 2014-03-02 13:43

Hello there,

I have just registered in your forum in order to ask about homebrewing laws in Sweden.

I live in Greece, and on behalf of a new born greek homebrewing association, I would like to gather information about swedish laws concerning brewing, consuming and possible selling of homebrewed beer.

Unfortunately in Greece at the moment there is no law about the matter and it seems more likely to put it in the "illegal" side rather the the legal. The association's effort is to push in the right spots in order to put homebrewing in the greek law map. Having other European examples and walkthroughs might be of extreme help for us to force greek authorities to have a serious thought on it.

I really appreciate your replies, helping us with our effort.
Replying in English is not mandatory but highly apprecciated, as well...

Tack!

Well pretty much it is such as this:

In Sweden it is legal to brew beer in your home for personal consumption.
It is never ever allowed to sell or trade for other goods/services your homebrewed beer.

As for consumption, "personal consumption" is not regulated as to what exactly that means.
The Swedish homebrewing association arrange Swedish Championships where one part of it is "People's Choice" where visitors (of legal age) can sample homebrewed beers that brewers allow to be tasted.
Also other meetings, tastings and competitions are held.
The brewers are never awarded any money for the beer they "distribute" at these events, they offer them for free.

Hope this helps explain how it works in broad terms in Sweden.

If you want any other or more specific answers, I'll try and help.

Thank you!

I thought it would be something like that, but homebrewing law differences between european countries (at least those which have one) are on details...

Could you possibly give me any info where could I find the law itself online in order to translate it to greek?

Older law from 1994, no longer in use:

And as mentioned, current law:

To the extent that you are able to pass the barrier of the Swedish language we do have some info about the controversies we have had regarding Swedish law on our wiki.
http://shbf.se/wiki/index.php/Lagstiftning
There you find links both to the laws and review of legality.

However, the core of our come together with
Swedish law was not the brewing itself but how to organize meetings.
My hope is hops

My girlfriend was staying in Stockholm, studying in KTH for 9 years, so she speaks Swedish fluently...

So I guess I have to be really nice to her. And ask for a little translation aid....
